Flourish My Dear

Life Is A Balancing Act

There’s nothing like living for the day! Doing whatever carefree thing we feel like with no regard for the consequences. I’d love a day of eating donuts, drinking wine, hanging out with my family and watching movies. And while this near perfect day of mine would feel really good, I know I’d regret the donuts, the wine and screen time the very next day.

But doing the opposite by focusing only on the future is just as bad. John Lennon* said “Life is what happens while you are busy making other plans”. All we have is this moment in time. Yesterday is long gone and tomorrow is just a dream.

Finding that perfect balance between living for today, and planning for tomorrow can be a difficult task. I look back on my early twenties, before kids, and regret not enjoying life more. My focus was working and saving for my future. And even though I’m financially benefiting significantly from those days, I wish I would’ve enjoyed those early, carefree days a little more.

So where do you fit in this balance? All we really have is this moment in time so make the most of your todays. Do you have some activities that bring you joy? Find something that gets you so excited you jump out of bed in the morning. And if you haven’t found something yet, it’s ok. Be be adventurous, try new things. You’ll eventually find what you truly love to do.

But while you’re living in the moment and enjoying each day, don’t jeopardize your future. Consuming a box of donuts or a bottle of wine while enjoyable, certainly will have a negative effect on your tomorrow. Plan for your future by living a healthy life, creating strong relationships, and preparing financially.

Balance, balance, balance. Make plans for your future, but live for today. No go flourish my dear.
