Why You Should Embrace Minimalism

Before we get into why you should embrace minimalism, let’s define what it means. According to The Minimalists, “Minimalism is a tool to rid yourself of life’s excess in favor of focusing on what’s important—so you can find happiness, fulfillment, and freedom.” Many people think that minimalism is simply about having fewer things. But it’s much more than that. It’s about a lifestyle that offers you freedom.

And while reducing things are certainly a part of it. It’s also about eliminating digital clutter, ridding yourself of toxic relationships and commitments that are weighing you down.

It’s so much easier to start out living a minimalist lifestyle than to convert later in life. I can attest, after 30+ years of accumulation, it’s hard to work backwards. But also, after 30+ years of accumulation, a minimal life is very appealing.

So why should you embrace minimalism?

Time to focus on what is important

How does minimalism create free time? By eliminating things, you eliminate the time to maintain, clean and manage those things. And by reducing your digital clutter, you can eliminate wasted time on screens. Would you be scared to know how much time you waste scrolling on your phone? If yes maybe that’s a clear sign you need to reduce some digital clutter. With all this found free time, you can really focus on things that are important to you, whatever that might be

Financial Freedom

It’s obvious that if you have fewer things, you’re spending less money on those things. And don’t just consider the purchase price. Maintenance, repairs and cleaning those items also cost you. Thus allowing you to have more money for the things that really matter like changing jobs, moving or just saving for retirement.

Ultimately, being a minimalist is about living your life with intention. Finding what you want in life and then achieving it. Don’t waste your youth on things that really don’t matter. Someday you’ll be 54 and wondering why you didn’t use your time and money more wisely.

Now go flourish my dear.
