Flourish My Dear

Be Resilient

The only thing really bruised was my ego. I fell while running. On a busy street. With lots of cars stopped right next to me. And everyone staring. After rolling sideways 360, I popped back up and took off again as quickly as possible, a little scratched and a lot embarrassed.

It’s not the first time I’ve been knocked down. Life has a way of doing that. You can be prancing along engrossed in Pharrell’s “Happy”, then a broken sidewalk pops up out of nowhere in front of you. Nobody escapes life without a few stumbles.

The only thing fully in your control is how you react. You can accept defeat and move on to a new venture. You can whine and complain and grudgingly return. Or you can learn from the mishap and emerge a stronger person. The choice is entirely up to you.

Our greatest periods of growth happen during the most difficult times. It’s only then we’re tested that we move forward. Make a commitment to use those times to become better and stronger. Sometimes it may take a moment to get back up, but don’t stay down. You are much more resilient than you know.

So when you fall, hop back up. Then step a little higher over the cracks in the sidewalk.
